InterContinental Hotel (Abu Dhabi, UAE)
8:20 AMThe last part of our family's Ramadan staycation series is finally here! I know, this post is long overdue already. I do apologize for not updating this blog more frequently the way I used to. It's just that I've been busy these past few weeks preparing for "something." (I'm going to share it as soon as we've got positive results. *fingers crossed*)
Anyway, we had this overnight stay at Intercon about three months ago. Their room rates were on sale, almost half its regular price, so we decided to go and give one of Abu Dhabi's oldest five-star hotels a try.
If Rayhaan by Rotana had won my heart because of their staffs' warm hospitality and excellent customer service, and DoubleTree by Hilton had my jaw dropping because of their superb and world class facilities, I must say that Intercontinental Abu Dhabi didn't fail me as well for they had me crushing their luxurious and comfy guest rooms, head over heels!
As I have mentioned above, Intercon is considered to be one of the capital city's heritage hotels. I wasn't actually expecting much from it (because of its advanced age), so just imagine my surprise when I first walked into our room and found a luxuriously designed interior and a lavish marble bathroom. I'm telling you, it was love at first sight!
Aside from its sophisticated furnishings, what I really appreciated the most about our accommodation was its huge windows which gave us an amazing view of the city's skyline. I'm a great fan of anything bright and airy. Hence, a well-lit room like Intercon's is definitely a plus for me. In addition, each guest room had an access to a complimentary wifi service and was also equipped with complete amenities.
Their facilities include a private beach, outdoor pool area, gym, spa and wellness center, tennis court, etc. But of all these, the outdoor play area and the kid's club are what made this hotel extra special, at least, in my almost three-year-old toddler's point of view.
One of the criteria my husband and I are looking for in a hotel is the availability of a recreation area for kids -- in short, it must be KID FRIENDLY! We wanted Rafa to enjoy and have a memorable experience with each staycation. Hence, this prerequisite is something we consider to be non-negotiable.
What surprised me the most about this hotel is that their kid's club is actually managed by a British nurse, who facilitates different educational activities (i.e. singing, dancing, story-telling, arts and crafts, games, etc.) for your little ones. Not to mention, they also provide free and unlimited chocolate chip cookies, juice, and water available for all the kids and parents/guardians in the club.
Indeed, Intercontinental Abu Dhabi didn't only live up to my expectations, but they even went above and beyond it. I highly recommend this hotel especially to families with kids who wish to have a fantastic staycation experience without leaving the city!
