A Weekend in Sharjah
9:48 AMHere's a photo diary of our family's out-of-town trip to Sharjah. This trip was taken a few months ago when we visited the Plasuelo family in their humble abode and went for a night out at Al Qasba. We've been to this emirate several times already, but it's our first time to actually tour around and explore one of the city's most popular attractions. In case you're planning to visit the place, here are some of the few things that you and your family can enjoy:

Dine. There are several cafes and restaurants to choose from in Al Qasba, hence food isn't going to be a problem. It's best to visit during the winter season so you can dine al fresco and get a nice view of the Eye of the Emirates and their grand canal.
Both kids and kids at heart will surely enjoy and have fun at the Kids fun zone. We were so tired already during that time, so we decided not to take the rides anymore. But for those of you who are interested, price starts at AED 15 and timings are as follows:
Winter Season: Saturday – Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 midnight | Friday: 3:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight
Summer Season: Daily 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight
If you want to get a panoramic view of the city, then the Eye of the Emirates might sound like a good idea. Their cabins/capsules are fully air conditioned which is great especially during the hot summer season. Admission ticket starts at AED15 for children and AED 30 for adults, while hours of operation are as follows:
Winter Season: Saturday – Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 midnight |Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. | Friday: 3:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Summer Season: Saturday – Wednesday: 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight | Thursday – Friday: 3:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.
We were also hoping to see the Al Qasba Musical Fountain that night but we, unfortunately, missed the show. Nonetheless, our little Rafa still managed to enjoy the night by playing with the waters.
Here are the show timings: 1st show at 5:00 p.m. | 2nd show at 6:00 p.m. | 3rd show at 7:30 p.m. | 4th show at 9:00 p.m. | 5th show at 9:30 p.m. | 6th show at 10:30 p.m. | 7th show at 11:30 p.m. | 8th show at 12:30 a.m. (Only Thursdays & Fridays) | *Fountain timing schedule subject to change according to prayer time.
The best part of our trip is the boat tour. They use a traditional abra boat to tour the guests around the lagoon where you'd see a fantastic view of the city's skyscrapers. Life jackets are available in case of emergency, so safety isn't going to be an issue. Timings and ticket prices can be found below:
Timings: Saturday – Wednesday: 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight | Thursday – Friday & Public Holidays: 4:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Prices: AED 100 for Private tour | AED 15 for adults | AED 10 for children aged 4 – 10 years old | Children below 4 years are free of charge
The emirate of Sharjah is also a bit far from Abu Dhabi -- that's approximately 2.5 hrs of travel time without traffic if you're driving at a speed of 120 km/hr -- thus, we opted to stay for the night at the nearby Sharjah Premiere Hotel. It's only a three-star property but they're pretty complete with all the basic facilities and amenities you'll find in most hotels.
We got connecting rooms since we're travelling with my sister. Their room size is just right for a standard room (not too big nor cramped) but it's clean and comfortable, which is our utmost priority. The only thing which I found a bit off with them is that their breakfast buffet doesn't include complimentary water. They do have coffee and juices for drinks but if you want bottled water, you'll have to pay extra for it. Nonetheless, everything about this hotel, I guess, is good enough to satisfy every visiting guest.
Below are some of the photos during our short stay:
It was indeed a great weekend for our family! We're hoping to be back and explore more of Sharjah in the future!
